igrek001 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I have two computers: one laptop HP Pavilion and second desktop Dell Inspiration. The desktop on the 2nd floor (townhouse) and for Internet connection I use wireless adapter Belkin G, wich from Belkin router and cable modem, located on the first floor. It works perfect for a long time, and if appeared some problem, I just rebutted PC, and problem was solved. But couple day ago, the Internet Connstion stopped working and in the list of wireless connection appeared 'Acquiring network address'. Rebuting PC doessn't help, I start searching forums for help and used many suggestion, how to resolve the problem. But still no success. Only changes I got was dissapeard 'Acquiring network address', but PC still have status 'not connected' and browser doesn't work. I even bought a new Belking adapter, but it doesn't resolve the problem. Please, help! Quote
KenB Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Just to confirm: You have a router on the first floor. You have a desktop machine with a wireless adapter on the second floor. You have a laptop also. Is this correct? Can the laptop connect to the internet or is that a problem too ? On the desktop machine: Can you see an icon that looks like 2 monitors ? If you can .....right click on it and select "Repair" Let me know what happens. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! igrek001 Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 yes, it's absolutely correct about computers.... laptop on the 1st floor works perfectly. ... on the desktop PC the icon for wireless connection indicates status 'connected', but another icon (looks like router), when I click it shows 'Internet is not connected', it's the truth - Internet still doesn't work... first time if I click the monitor icon my network connection appeared with 'acquiring address network', then, after some recomended adjusting the 'acquiring...' disappeard and icon shows 'connected'.... first what I did, use the 'repair' option, but it just stopped on 'trying connect to network'.... KenB Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 It is not listed in the initial .NET options - you have to scroll down through the alphabetical list. I have just checked on my XP machine and it is there. I put an extra > in my first instructions .......here is the correct path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > Current ControlSet > Services > NetBT > Parameters > Interfaces click on Tcpip to highlight it. On the right side of the screen you should see the "NetbiosOptions" Is it set to 0x00000000 (1) or 0x00000000 (0) ? it should be "0" ============================= If that doesn't locate it ( XP may be slightly different ) do the following: Open the Registry > click on EDIT > Find Check only the box against DATA ( uncheck the other two ) Type into the Find box .............netbiosoptions You should see the following: [ What I have highlighted in red is the path to NetBT and Tcpip ] Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! igrek001 Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 I followed up to your instruction in the post#18 very carefully, and got the path ' SYSTEM > Current ControlSet > Services > NetBT > Parameters > Interfaces ' but when I followed to this path, there still didn't appears folder NetBT.... KenB Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 There were instructions in post 18 that explained how to use the "Find" option from within the Registry. [bottom half of the post] Please follow those instructions. It is important that we find this as we need to check that NetBios is not disabled from within the Registry, ============= Something else to try: Start > Run ....type in .....msconfig .....ENTER Click on "Launch System Restore" Follow the prompts and select a date that is prior to the start of your problem. This will restore the system and registry settings to what they were on the chosen date. Files / photos / data etc will be fine.
