I have two computers: one laptop HP Pavilion and second desktop Dell Inspiration. The desktop on the 2nd floor (townhouse) and for Internet connection I use wireless adapter Belkin G, wich from Belkin router and cable modem, located on the first floor. It works perfect for a long time, and if appeared some problem, I just rebutted PC, and problem was solved.

But couple day ago, the Internet Connstion stopped working and in the list of wireless connection appeared 'Acquiring network address'. Rebuting PC doessn't help, I start searching forums for help and used many suggestion, how to resolve the problem. But still no success. Only changes I got was dissapeard 'Acquiring network address', but PC still have status 'not connected' and browser doesn't work. I even bought a new Belking adapter, but it doesn't resolve the problem. Please, help!

Just to confirm:

You have a router on the first floor.

You have a desktop machine with a wireless adapter on the second floor.

You have a laptop also.

Is this correct?

Can the laptop connect to the internet or is that a problem too ?

On the desktop machine:

Can you see an icon that looks like 2 monitors ?

If you can .....right click on it and select "Repair"

Let me know what happens.

yes, it's absolutely correct about computers.... laptop on the 1st floor works perfectly. ... on the desktop PC the icon for wireless connection indicates status 'connected', but another icon (looks like router), when I click it shows 'Internet is not connected', it's the truth - Internet still doesn't work... first time if I click the monitor icon my network connection appeared with 'acquiring address network', then, after some recomended adjusting the 'acquiring...' disappeard and icon shows 'connected'....

first what I did, use the 'repair' option, but it just stopped on 'trying connect to network'....

IP Config /all was done with the adapter in the mashine and wireless switched off

I thought so.

1. We need an IP Config /all with the wireless switched on and the adapter connected.

2. Silly question ......you did have the wireless ON when you were trying to connect to the net ?

3. Were there any yellow exclamation marks in Device manager > Network Adapters?

The IP Config /all has changed - BUT it is still not correct.

Check this please.....

Start > Run ...type in ....regedit .....ENTER

Cliclk the ">" next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > Current ControlSet > Services > NetBT > Parameters > Interfaces

click on Tcpip

In the right panel you will see

"NetbiosOptions"

Is it set to 0x00000000 (1) or 0x00000000 (0) ?

it should be "0"

It is not listed in the initial .NET options - you have to scroll down through the alphabetical list.

I have just checked on my XP machine and it is there.

I put an extra > in my first instructions .......here is the correct path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > Current ControlSet > Services > NetBT > Parameters > Interfaces

click on Tcpip to highlight it.

On the right side of the screen you should see the "NetbiosOptions"

Is it set to 0x00000000 (1) or 0x00000000 (0) ?

it should be "0"

=============================

If that doesn't locate it ( XP may be slightly different ) do the following:

Open the Registry > click on EDIT > Find

Check only the box against DATA ( uncheck the other two )

Type into the Find box .............netbiosoptions

You should see the following: [ What I have highlighted in red is the path to NetBT and Tcpip ]

yes, I got the path, you highlited in red, but when I tried to follow the path, there is still no NetBT... That what I have for Nets: NetDriver HPZ12, NetBIOS, NetDDE, NetDDEdsdm, Netlogon, Netman, Network ... I opened NetBIOS instead, it has 'Parametrs', but then no Interfaces...

so, what I can do???

Posted
no, I didn't use 'Search'...but what I can search?... I now tried to search files or folders 'NetBT', but got only 2 files: netbt.sys....

I now tried to search files or folders

?????

I gave you specific instructions on how to search from within the Registry.

Files and Folders is a Windows search.

We are not getting very far with this.

See post 18.

I followed up to your instruction in the post#18 very carefully, and got the path ' SYSTEM > Current ControlSet > Services > NetBT > Parameters > Interfaces '

but when I followed to this path, there still didn't appears folder NetBT.... I informed you about this in the post #19...

Posted

There were instructions in post 18 that explained how to use the "Find" option from within the Registry.

[bottom half of the post]

Please follow those instructions.

It is important that we find this as we need to check that NetBios is not disabled from within the Registry,

=============

Something else to try:

Start > Run ....type in .....msconfig .....ENTER

Click on "Launch System Restore"

Follow the prompts and select a date that is prior to the start of your problem.

This will restore the system and registry settings to what they were on the chosen date.

Files / photos / data etc will be fine.

Hello, KenB:

as I told you, I followed to your instruction and got the path System>Current ControlSet>Services>NetBT>Parameters>Interfaces on the right side, but what I can do with it??

Is still doesn't allow to click NetBT and following Parameters>Interfaces and Tcpip...

what about Restoring the system, I tried it before asking for help, but got message: System couldn't be restored, try again.... now I can't do it because it shows only March Calendar and I need to restore to the February date... :-(
