Guest PerkyPenny Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Hello all, I am in dire need of help and hopeful that I can get the assistance that I need. My hubby downloaded a virus on my computer one day last week. It was quite nasty and I had to do a system restore. I ended up having to do a Destructive System Restore to get everything right again. (The virus would not allow me to access any of my documents, music, etc. When I clicked on the Start button, it wouldn't even bring up my control panel or anything) I did the destructive restore and everything has been working fine. My computer automatically downloaded all the updates and when it installs the SP 3 (or even SP2) and tells me to restart my computer my computer will reboot up to the windows xp logo screen and then a screen comes up and tells me that there is a problem with windows being able to start correctly. It asks if I want to start is safe mode, a few other modes or normal mode and will count down from 30 seconds to zero and then attempt to reboot again. Regardless of what mode I choose, I will get the same results....the logo page, the error page...over and over until I do a system restore on the system. I even attempted to download the SP2 and the same thing happened!! Am I doomed to a life of no SP or is there a fix for this?? I REALLY appreciate any help! :)
Guest db.·.. > Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Re: Need help with SP 2 (or SP 3) sometimes basic hardware failure can produce instability of the o.s. the faulty or failing hardware can be misinterpreted as an infection. i would do your factory restore again and disable the updating feature by unplugging the modem or telephone line from the computer. then operate your computer as is for a couple of days but ensure the automatic updating feature is turned off. in the interim, you might find what the problem is that is interfering with the updates. -- db·´¯`·...¸><)))º> "PerkyPenny" <PerkyPenny@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:9451DCD3-4ABD-4523-B3AE-9AAE7C36140C@microsoft.com... > Hello all, > > I am in dire need of help and hopeful that I can get the assistance that I > need. > > My hubby downloaded a virus on my computer one day last week.
