Toxiclum Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Hopefully within the next month or two I'll have enough money to buy a custom built PC, I've looked around on Dino PC and Computerplanet and it seems that Computerplanet is slightly cheaper and offers the same warranty. My price ranges from £800 - £880 Computer Case: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K Unlocked (4 x 3.4 GHz) 8MB OEM CPU Heatsink: Corsair Hydro Series H60 V2 (Advanced Liquid Cooling) - Silent Edition Memory: Corsair 8GB XMS3 PC3-12800 1600MHz (2x4GB) - Lifetime Warranty (DDR3) Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti - 1 GB - (KFA2) (PCI-E) - Motherboard: Asus P8H61-M LE/USB3 (Intel H61) Power Supply: Cooler Master 500W PSU - Low Noise Hard Drive #1: 1 TB (1000 GB) SATA-II HDD 7200 RPM 32MB Optical Drive #1: Samsung 22x DVD Re-Writer/Reader /- RW- Black - (SATA) £ 865.49 Which all seems well but I also put this set-up together and it seems like an AMD processor to reap a lot more benefits, it's much cheaper and I've heard you can unlock 2 more cores to the AMD Phenom II CPU? I've heard bad things about AMD GPU's such as frequent computer crashes ect. I don't entirely trust the company over intel, maybe I've just been brainwashed over intel's sleek company image, here's what I mustered up: Computer Case: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 960T (4 x 3.0 GHz) 8MB - Black Edition CPU Heatsink: Corsair Hydro Series H60 V2 (Advanced Liquid Cooling) Memory: Corsair 16GB PC3-12800 1600 MHz (4x4GB) - Lifetime Warranty (DDR3) Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 - 1280 MB - (PALIT) (PCI-E) Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 (AMD 760G) - VGA Power Supply: Corsair 600W (CMPSU-600CX) PSU - Low Noise Hard Drive #1: 1 TB (1000 GB) SATA-II HDD 7200 RPM 32MB Optical Drive #1: Samsung 22x DVD Re-Writer/Reader /- RW- Black - (SATA) £ 833.22 Like I said it seems that with the Phenom I can get more RAM a much better GPU and save money, I'm willing to OC the CPU to at least 3.4 or purchase the Phenom II 1055T (6 cores 2.8GHz 9MB and possibly OC that a bit) I'd love some help and guidance as I'm slightly in the dark. KenB Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Hi, I don't know too much about overclocking ( not being a gamer ) so cannot comment on this. The choice of CPU is the usual argument between AMD and Intel. It is a matter of personal preference. I don't think you would see too much difference between the two - the Intel should be a bit faster. Video Cards - when comparing the two the GTX570 comes off best ( just ) Again - not much to choose between them. You would be better off with the Corsair PSU It would seem that the cheaper list - on the face of it - is the better value. Toxiclum Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 I've been looking around some more and the AMD FX 6100 (6 x 3.3 GHz) AM3 12MB comes up at an identical price and again seems to be a lot better. Would that sway the AMD being better? Quote
KenB Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I don't think you will find too much to differentiate between the two. Take a look here: This is an AMD 8 core ....and an AMD advert :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
