Guest deb Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I have read many posts about changing from Vista to XP-Pro on different Toshiba laptops, however I've tried most suggestions to no avail. I'm looking to see if anyone can point me in the right direction so I can get back the use of my USB flashdrive? Most of the drivers came back once I went to Driver Detective but I still have several that unidentified. I've been to Tohiba's website and downloaded an earlier version for the USB driverer and it will not install on my system. The items not working properly is 1) power management settings to let the computer hibernate or sleep 2) USB connection to see a flashdrive 3) the good clear display settings. Any help would be appreciated....Thanks -- deb

Install Windows XP http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/winxp/install.mspx How to install or upgrade to Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941 NOTE: don't install the drivers for your hardware from Microsoft, only from your Manufacturer website and specific for your Operating system Version. You need to go to Toshiba's website and get the chipset driver(s) for your model, for Windows XP, and all the other stuff (video driver, etc). This isn't really an XP issue as drivers are the responsibility of the hardware manufacturer. You should make sure that Toshiba has XP drivers for this laptop before doing an installation of XP.
Guest deb Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Re: need suggestions for operating system change issues I did do a full install from a clean harddrive and this is the result. I did go to Toshiba website and it tells me there are no drivers available for XP, that's my problem. I was able to get most of the drivers from driver dective but the ones I'm having issues with I can't seem to find..... -- deb "Pegasus (MVP)" wrote: > > "deb" <deb@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:4748EDD1-EE96-4ED9-AE1C-08EABF5C203D@microsoft.com... > >I have read many posts about changing from Vista to XP-Pro on different > > Toshiba laptops, however I've tried most suggestions to no avail. Guest nass Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 RE: need suggestions for operating system change issues Deb This just a guess and it may be not work or it may be will work! I done a search on Toshiba website and got the link for the nearest match to your Serises Laptop. Try to download it and install it and see if that will help. If it didn't then your way back to Vista is the only answer. Download drivers: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU Satellite A Serises Model Satellite A110 (PSAB6) Let us know if this worked for you and solved your issue. Guest Pegasus \(MVP\) Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Re: need suggestions for operating system change issues Your simplest course of action would be to stay with Vista. If you insist on using WinXP then you can do this: - Run Aida32.exe (http://www.aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php#aida32) do identify the names and models of your various devices. - Get on to http://www.driverguide.com to locate drivers for these devices. Guest deb Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Re: need suggestions for operating system change issues Thanks for the info....I did run aida32 and unfortunately it came back and said the chipset was unknown as well as the CPU type....so I guess I'm just out of luck. I did learn that as long as I don't have a flashdrive plugged in right next to my usb plug for the wireless mouse my usb can read my flashdrive....strange problem it can see them side by side but at least there's a work around there....now if I can just get my hibernate/program sleep modes back i'd actually be quite happy.....if not it still runs much better with XP than it ever dreamed of doing with Vista....I'm glad I got rid of the OS and wish Mr. Gates would do the same..... -- deb "Pegasus (MVP)" wrote: > Your simplest course of action would be to stay with Vista. The drivers simply do not exist. Anywhere. Probably.
Guest Lil' Dave Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Re: need suggestions for operating system change issues Sounds like the 2 USB ports are tied to the same USB root hub. Not enough power for both when used on same root hub as the mouse. Check device manager. -- Dave "deb" <deb@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:C705EF00-F526-4ADC-AA14-482AE5596C04@microsoft.com... > Thanks for the info....I did run aida32 and unfortunately it came back and > said the chipset was unknown as well as the CPU type....so I guess I'm > just > out of luck.
