dashes or hyphens all over screens

when I start some programs (excel, word, outlook, etc) I get dashes or

hyphens scattered all over the screen. this doesn't happen all the time but

most of the time and not always the same program. can anybody tell me what

causes it? thanks

The date and time was 9/9/2008 9:07 AM, and on a whim, stan pounded out

on the keyboard:

Hi Stan,

 

Have you updated your display driver recently?

 

Have you tested it in Windows Safe Mode to see if it happens?

 

Is it only MS Office?

I don't see any dashes or marks on any screens when in safe mode. They do

appear normally in programs other than MS Office. I will try updating my

display driver....thank you! I will come back if they don't disappear....
