Hi I am using Windows Xp on a Sony Viao.

I burned a cd about a month ago using iTunes and ever since then when I

insert a normal CD or DVD in the drive to try and play them or rip them they

do not show up in any way. I have looked in my computer directly, in iTunes

and WMP etc but the CD or DVD never show up the drive just show as empty.

If I insert a blank CD or DVD my PC does register this. However when I try

and burn something onto the DVD via any software application it always fails.

Any help greatly appreciated as it means I cannot rip cds onto my PC at the

moment or install any software that comes on a disc.

How old is the drive?

Bought the PC in 2005, sorry for the delay in replying have been away with

no PC access.

I tested it again today and it let me burn a cd but when I put it back the

cd back into the PC it did not see the music I had just burned onto it yet it

did when I put it into into my laptop.

I had similar problems from a drive of similar age. I bought a newer

model burner and that solved the problem.
