Can't get rid of explorer.exe

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have turned off system restore. I then renamed c:\windows\explorer.exe. I

took a dir explorer.exe and it showed no files I waited a few seconds and

took another dir explorer.exe and explorer.exe was back right there. Is this

normal? Is there any way to permanently delete or rename the existing

explorer.exe?

Thanks

Regards

It's a protected system file. Why do you want to get rid of it?

In case it is corrupted related to my earlier problem so I can replace it

from a fresh copy.

That's exactly what the system did.

Re: Can't get rid of explorer.exe

Put the fresh copy in the system32\dllcache folder, WFP will pick it up

from there when you delete it from the %windir% directory.

After logion can't see task bar and desktop icons, just a black background

screen with mouse pointer.

Re: Can't get rid of explorer.exe

After deleting explorer.exe delete the C:\WINDOWS folder.

Just joking, ha ha ha. So you deleted explorer and now you have no desktop? Explorer IS

Windows! Restore explorer.exe from your Windows disc.
