Guest Neil Burk Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I am using NLB on 5 hosts runing 2003 Terminal Server. The only way I can get a reliable connection to the VIP is to configure them in Unicast mode. According to MS documentation I should be able to use nlb mgr (gui) to manage the cluster, from a host outside of the cluster but it does not work. When I connect to VIP with nlb mgr, 3 of the hosts are "unreachable" according to nlb mgr. These hosts are available via ping, rdp, tracert, etc. I have enabled "Remote Connections" in nlb mgr, I have configured DCOM to allow the udp connection - still does not work. Any ideas.
mirend Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Re: NLB Mgr question Are those nodes already in the cluster or are you trying to add them? Do they have dedicated IPs? What type of switch are they plugged into (Layer 2 or 3)? Do you have NIC teaming enabled on the servers? I recommend running "wlbs display" on the servers and post the output here. That will show if the servers are converged or not. That would be the first step and we can go from there.
Guest Neil Burk Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Re: NLB Mgr question Thank you for your interest. All 5 nodes are already in the cluster (see below) I had to add them one at a time on each node itself. They all have their own DIP with a VIP bound to them. 2 of the nodes are plugged into Cisco Catalyst 3550 and the other 3 are plugged into Cisco Catalyst 3750. I am not using NIC Teaming, however the begining of my problem seemed to be when the second nic on 2 of the nodes were activated on a different subnet for Netbackup. Ever since then I had to change to unicast mode to get the VIP to connect every time from clients, but I can not use the NLB Mgr anywhere to manage all of the nodes in the cluster. nlb query and display shown below. mirend Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Re: NLB Mgr question Have you tried putting them all in the same switch or same hub? That is typically a good way to troubleshoot it. Take the complexity out and make it as simple as possible. Once they're all in the same hub/switch, try again. If it works, then it's an issue with how your switches are configured. Are the three that can't be reached on the same switch?
