Well, I am trying to become the admin of my home network, i have about 8 computers, every one that lives here has one lol. Anyways, most of the pc's are windows xp (one is Ubuntu one one is mac and one is windows 95), those are the main ones i want to work with right now I have them all on the same workgroup(WORKGROUP) but if i try to do anything it says I don't have permission. It looks like if i have permission i can restart all the pc's from my pc and change all their settings remotely.

Thanks in advanced for any help.

Hello.

What operating system is on the computer that you're trying to control access from?

Are you the Administrator on that computer?

What exactly are you trying when you get the error, and what is the exact error message?

My pc has Windows XP, yes i am the admin of it, and I put all the computers in my house on the same workgroup, then i went into admin tools on my computer and hit computer management. Then i hit connect to another computer and type in the computers name, but if i try to view the system info or change anything at all it just says access denied.

Sorry for the delay in a reply, i lost this website for awhile...

I already knew all that, all the computers that i am working with right now are Windows XP home and are all on the same workgroup.

um, i tried to do this, http://71.79.130.34/123.jpg but when i put in a comptuer name and hit check name a login box pops up, i enter that computers admin username and password and it returns the error "The following error occurred while using the user name (pcname\username) and password you entered: access is denied."

I'm good with internet networking, but not so much with network file sharing. However, the error clearly points out that either the username or password is incorrect. My guess is that it is not requesting the administrators user name and password, but rather a user name and password that is setup on the other computers to allow sharing.

For example, Vista has a number of options that won't allow access to it's folders over a network. One of which is a sharing username and password (which can be totally disabled).

goto control panel > network connections

Right click on your local area connection and goto properties

Make sure file andprinter sharing is enabled

Share a folder on the other pc and you should be good to go.
