Help: What would cause a corrupt profile Windows XP

I had a Missing/Corrupt Profile under Windows XP. I fixed the

issue, but I would like to understand why this might occur so I can

prevent it from occurring again. I checked the machine for virii,

etc., (clean), performed a disk check (no issues), etc.

 

I have been running XP for several years on various machines and this

is the first time I had this issue.

Did you recently upgrade from IE 6 to IE 7? When I did, it caused some

problems in my user profile. When I uninstalled IE 7, the problem was gone

too!
