Hello there.Have you firstly tried this monitor on another computer or laptop?

Do you have the taskbar on the screen?

If you press CTRL,ALT AND DEL keys on your computer do you get anything on screen?

Dell inspiron M5030

Hi no I've nothing to test it on, it was working fine, then on the next re-boot just a grey & white grainy screen, back light is good, contrast etc works, could it possibly be that the invertor has gone ?

Sorry forgot no nothing at all on the laptops screen ...

Do you get post screen at all or is it just white on startup?

While the external monitor is plugged in do you get post screen and windows start up or is the external white to?

If you press ctrl+alt+esc does anything appear on screen but to do this unplug the external monitor.

With just the laptop screen ( no external monitor ) if you look closely - is the graphics there .....but very faint ?

Plug in the external monitor. ( assuming that this is OK )

Start > type in ......devmgmt.msc .......ENTER

Click the + next to display adapters

What is listed ?

Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?

What about this?

Can you see anything in the background ?

ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4250

Your video is a chip on the motherboard and not a replaceable card.

However - if you are getting graphics on the external monitor this would appear to be OK.

I think we are looking at a backlight / invertor problem or a problem with the connection to the screen.

Hi, if I may just add a little,

It does now look to be a problem with the laptops screen itself, or the cable and connections between the laptop and screen.

To repair it is a very fiddly job to dismantle to so that the cable can be checked and connections, and if the cable is OK to replace the screen.

Unless you have experience with dismantling laptops, we normally say this is the point to take it in for repairs.

hi

if you are getting graphics all ok on an extenal monito then your internal GPU is fine, this is most liekly as you say the inverter board, or potentially the video cable.

if you see a faint picture then it is in my experience mostly the inverter. but in some cases this can be the backlight.

Inverters are very cheap on eBay and are relativly easy to fit if you know a little about electronics, but as always the inverter has power so be carefull.

if you go with fixing this yourself then dissconnect the PSU and the Battery and leave this out for a day, this will drain any charge stored.

hope that helps some what.

There are many pages on web about this. It appears that the cable to the screen gets a kink during use and causes the white screen.

For me closing and opening screen a few times eventually works, but real fix is a new cable which costs a few pounds.

My fix however is to keep the sreen up, keep the laptop on all the time and instead of shutting down put the laptop

into Hibernate. This means that cable not being constatntly stressed and laptop starts OK.

Seems to be working so far.
