GRANDAD Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 This may be a simple question and answer but--i am using AVG 2012 security and sometimes via my favorites or via a link in an email from my internet provider i receive the message'' OOPS WE DID NOT EXPECT THAT'', and hence i am unable to log onto the site. Could it be i need to change something within the AVG set up [and what would thar be ] or may it have nothing to do with AVG ?? Thanking you. Quote
GRANDAD Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 (edited) OK --- so I have been in touch with AVG who say the set up I have is a crack! --- Hence the problems. The seller stated he was an AVG official reseller and showed me via an email an official looking certificate to confirm It. The download was from the AVG download site but the seller supplied the key.---------- I’ve been done. It’s very true if it looks too good to be true then no doubt it is—beware of these eBay sellers regardless of what they say they are. I now need to uninstall this and find an other, maybe free AVG to replace it Hope this may help others who use this forum. Edited March 20, 2012 by GRANDAD Quote
Jelly Bean Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Grandad you need to report the seller to eBay.You may then get your money back. And here is FREE AVG download for you.: http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition-2012/3000-2239_4-10320142.html During install choose FREE...... KenB Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 As J-B says ............report the guy to EBay and also give his details to AVG If you are looking for free AV software you could also give MS Essentials a try. ( Not both together ) Both Starbuck and I use this. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! etavares Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 If you paid via PayPal, you also have extra protection. I"d contact them if you used them, your credit card company if not, and also eBay. GRANDAD Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 In short it looks like AVG do not whish to know? also i am looking to pay pal to claim. Thanks for your comments and download instructions. [it looks like im just outside the time factor for ebay] Quote
GRANDAD Posted March 22, 2012 Author Posted March 22, 2012 It looks like for both ebay and paypal that i am just out of time to claim, it says unable to dispute, [45days plus] Thats life--you live and learn, the punch line is dont hang arround claim ASAP and worry about it later. Thanks to all. Quote
KenB Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 I still think you should report the seller to eBay - he will carry on selling useless stuff if somebody doesn't stop him. GRANDAD Posted March 22, 2012 Author Posted March 22, 2012 (edited) Having done a check I find they are no longer a registered user of eBay. Edited March 22, 2012 by GRANDAD Quote
GRANDAD Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 (edited) I have reported this to ebay serveral times- re a second unit bought from ebay and the seller is still operating, this is the comment from AVG -- AVG Chat:We wouldlike to inform you that the AVG license number you provided is incorrect and was generated through an illegal license number generator. Its use is considered illegal according to AVG License Policy. Both ebay and AVG do not whish to know re this problem, hence people can get ripped off time and time again. Think im on a mission now! or perhaps just let it go. WILL JUST PUT THIS TO BED NOW. Edited March 27, 2012 by GRANDAD Quote
KenB Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Both ebay and AVG do not whish to know re this problem, I am surprised! You can't say that you didn't try. GRANDAD Posted March 29, 2012 Author Posted March 29, 2012 Maybe just maybe a result as this second seller was selling security which would have coverd 140 PC,s -- some had 20days run time left on ebay but ALL sales have now ended. Sorry to be a pain in the do dar but some things get to me. , think it must be age related. Have a good day. Quote
Draco Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 As an afterthought........ I've run AVG free for literally years now, on more than 3 computers, with no problems. I just use them for antivirus. I use Spybot S&D for spyware. Again, no problems after many years of use. I know there's newer and by all reports, supposedly better free software out there. ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted March 30, 2012 ExTS Admin Posted March 30, 2012 I'm an ex-mechanic, and still live the mechanic's code: "If it works, don't fix it." But in the case of 'Spybot S&D' ..... does it work? or should i say.... does it work enough to be of use! It isn't updated as regularly as other programs and does lack the ability to stop some of todays malware. 'Spybot S&D' was good in it's day ..... but sadly that day has now past. As a 'Security Team member' ..... this program hasn't been on my recommended list for a long time. and if you are.... moving up to Windows 7 professional 64bit .... i wouldn't even consider using it! Draco Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Spybot seems to be working for me. Maybe I don't go poking my nose into things that are even questionable, or something. But I haven't had a problem with spyware or malware for years. Oh, and I've been on the new PC with Win.7 Pro 64 bit for about a month now. Running AVG free for my AV, as well. Guess I do everything wrong. Quote
KenB Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Guess I do everything wrong. Not at all. Free software moves on and there are, in our opinion, better options out there than Spybot and AVG. But - if you are happy with them, and they work for you, then that is entirely your choice. :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
