Additional DC in different subnet

I'm installing a new DC in SUBNET2 that will act as a secondary domain

controller for our DC in SUBNET1. Are there any special concerns being that

the 2 DC's are supporting the same domain but on different subnets,

connected via a VPN?

Do I need to do anything to make sure the servers in SUBNET2 know to use the

new DC in their subnet ?

Thanks

Nick

Re: Additional DC in different subnet

You do that through AD Sites and Services. Create a second site and

link it to subnet 2. Move the second DC into the new site.

Hello news.optonline.com" N,

Configure AD sites and services with the new subnet and site and move the

DC to the new site. I would also make the new server DNS/GC and DHCP if needed,

so you are independent from the other DC if the line is broken.

Best regards

Re: Additional DC in different subnet

Thank you both for this info.

Let me know if I'm correct in the process.

1. install DNS on the new DC

2. promote new server to a DC

3. Create a new site on SUBNET 1 DC and link it to SUBNET2 using site and

services

4. Move new DC into the SUBNET1 site that was newly created

On the running DC/DNS server change to Active directory integrated zones

if not done, easier for replication and full writable on all DNS server.

Ok.

Thought the new DC is the second subnet?

The new DC is in the 2nd subnet. I thought I need to move it to the new

site I create in SUBNET 1?
