AndrewVogel Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Hi, I have a dell dimension 9100 and I was wondering what graphics cards would be compatable with it. I know my description is kind of scarce, but I don't really know much about comupters. Thanks in advance, Andrew Quote
Jelly Bean Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Hello and welcome.... You do know its not as simple as just buying a graphics card and fitting it? Your PSU is only 375 watts you would also have to pay out for a new Power Supply Unit. JB. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
KenB Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 According to your system specs - you have one PCIe x 16 slot. This is what you would need for your new Video Card. Depending on what you select - you will probably need a new Power Supply Unit too as you only have a 375Watt as J-B has pointed out. You would need to select the Video Card first then make sure that you have a PSU that can supply it with enough power. Your choice of card will be limited by what you want to spend. AndrewVogel Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 Thanks for your help, where exactly would I be able to purchase a new psu, and I would probably use the graphics card for some gaming- but not much. Any recommendations on a video card? Quote
AndrewVogel Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 Sorry for the double post, but would this psu do? http://www.911forpcs.com/9100.html Quote
Jelly Bean Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Depending on what card you buy you maybe looking at a 500-600 watt... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
AndrewVogel Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 What would a decent card be? I would probably be looking to just run most games at medium settings, probably. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 The most common card I know people buy is the GT Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
AndrewVogel Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 And I would need a 500 watt psu for it to run well? Or would that 400 watt one do? Quote
Jelly Bean Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I would be going for at least a 500 watt PSU,I would not be buying the Dell brand but OCZ or Corsair or another well known branded and reliable PSU..... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................

AndrewVogel Posted March 22, 2012 Author Posted March 22, 2012 Hello again, just found this card on my local classifieds, and i was wondering what you thought. Here it is: http://princegeorge.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-computer-accessories-Radeon-HD-3870-PCIE-512MB-GDDR4-Video-Graphics-Card-W0QQAdIdZ358315849 Quote
KenB Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 At $70 this is half price ( I found it for $140 on Amazon ) Also found this review http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=147&Itemid=72&limit=1&limitstart=9 It is a good card. You just need to be aware that it is not new - and probably comes with no guarantee at all.
