Guest Ron Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 RE: Installed SP3 Now Cannot Access Internet(IE and OE) I had the same problem last week, as did two other people in my building. In all three cases we had to go back to a system restore point to get the computers working again. Now I am afraid to install the update that they keep pushing. Did you find any answers on the help site?? Have they fixed the issue? Ron "Danny" wrote: > I installed SP3 ( via Update notification icon) now I can no longer access > the Internet. Guest PA Bear [MS MVP] Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Re: Installed SP3 Now Cannot Access Internet(IE and OE) Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=1173 | select "Windows XP" then select "Windows XP Service Pack 3" -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Danny wrote: > I installed SP3 ( via Update notification icon) now I can no longer access > the Internet. Guest Danny Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 RE: Installed SP3 Now Cannot Access Internet(IE and OE) After spending 4 hours on the phone with SP3 Engineering Support, SP2 was "restored" in order for my computer to connect to the Internet. The SP3 Support Engineers, via "msconfig" command, disabled all 3rd party software only allowing windows programs to run. Still could NOT access Internet via IE/OE. MS SP3 Support Engineers(3 of them in Texas) removed and reloaded SP3 step by step checking each programming line. Computer still would NOT connect to Internet. So they "restored" to SP2 and all works fine. They installed "SP# Blockere.EXE to prevent SP3 from installing on my computer ubtil they fix this worldwide problem. None of the solutions presented here or anywhere else worked. Dan "Danny" wrote: > I installed SP3 ( via Update notification icon) now I can no longer access > the Internet. What is going on??? Guest Danny Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 RE: Installed SP3 Now Cannot Access Internet(IE and OE) Ron, There is NO "fix" for this problem in my case. Go to MS Downloads and get "SP3 Blocker. EXE" and download it to prevent SP3 from intsalling. See my above general post about what SP# Support Eng did. Guest Danny Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Re: Installed SP3 Now Cannot Access Internet(IE and OE) Dont use it...Zone Alarm problem presented on many blogs and Communities did not work and according to SP3 Support Engineers, is not the "real" problem anyway. That will only block the install of WinXP SP3 (via Automatic Updates) for 12 months. Repost, I'm sure...
