Guest Ilja Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Hello, I have recently upgraded my xp pro to sp3. Since then, i am unable to acces the internet and get a Dns error message in IE6. I've tried repairing the connections but without succes. My laptop is still able to acces the internet, so that meanes my router and modem are functioning properly. I have swithed off my firewall (McAfee) and set the security settings to the minimum. My hardware seems to function ok. By using the commandpompt, config all, i get the following information: Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : ilja Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Eth ernet NIC Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-13-8F-E6-94-55 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 194.134.5.55 194.134.5.5 My laptop (sp2, still connected to the internet) gives the following info: Windows IP-configuratie Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Rianne Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet-adapter Draadloze netwerkverbinding (WLAN): Connection-specific DNS Suffix: Description . . . . . . . . . . .: Dell draadloze WLAN 1350 WLAN Mini-PCI kaart Physical Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 00-0B-7D-0F-B3-50 Dhcp Enabled . . . . . . . . . : yes Autom. configuration enabled : yes IP-adres. . . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.101 Subnetmask. . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default gateway. . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP-server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS-servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 83.80.1.236 Any ideas? Guest Ilja Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 RE: No internet after sp3 update Hi, I managed te resolve the issue. The sp2 update apparently changed my DNS-settings to fixed adress. I have changed it (back?) to automatically detect and now all works fine again. Thanks for both your help, Ilja "Ilja" wrote: > Hello, > I have recently upgraded my xp pro to sp3.
