Guest Still learning Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 I posted something last night and it never made it here...but this one and other postings have. What I posted last night was off topic.

What I posted last night was off topic. No, it isn't moderated and no, you should not post off-topic subjects. Your item about the USB radio did actually make it to this newsgroup. Use Google to locate it if you cannot find it with your current newsreader.

You're not likely to get any meaningful answers and it distracts others who are seeking or offering help. It's kinda like if I ask a question about pharmacology while in an office news group. There are thousands of news groups and no doubt one of them will relate to your question. Just because other people do it doesn't make it right. It's called Netiquette.

Your posting history via Google Groups: http://groups.google.com/groups/search?q=author%3Anotrealaddy%40rukidding.com&start=0&scoring=d ==================================== OE Tools | Options | Read | Get XXX headers at a time The default is 300. You may set this option as high as 1,000. Right-click on the newsgroup in Folders pane | Synchronization Settings | select New Messages Only. Now every time you open the newsgroup (or hit F5), you will download the next-newest set of headers/messages.. When you feel you've downloaded enough headers/messages, again right-click on the newsgroup in Folders pane and select Catch Up Now. This will Mark as Read all messages on the server, including ones you've not yet downloaded. Now return to "Get XXX headers at a time" and uncheck the option completely; then compact the folder. From now on, OE will only download headers/messages posted to the server since you last checked (polled) for messages. What I posted last night was off topic. It all depends on what you consider "Here", since there at thousands of Usenet servers and each one is under control of the company that provides them. If you're posting through MS and reading through MS, well, you have to play by their rules and they can delete anything they want, but most Usenet servers don't accept foreign cancels. In the old days we use for run cancel bots on Usenet all the time, it was not something that was really approved of, but it worked well to clean up groups, today it's almost never done and with the growth of Boards and Web interfaces that mirror Usenet content it's about impossible to control anything. -- - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)
