Guest _Who Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Anyone know what SupportSoft software on my XP might be for? I know of their site but I've never purchased anything from them. In ProgramFiles there is a folder support.com which I'm guessing belongs to it. All the sub folders are empty except that bin has 3 .dll's It also appears in me Add or Remove Programs list. === A maybe related question: What is the name of the Roadrunner magic software? The dialog box use to pop up when my service was not good. I no longer need it but don't know where the file is. === I'm having trouble with the computer hanging on boot and like to get rid of anything I don't use - especially the services. Thank

Guest nass Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Re: SupportSoft on an XP. What is it? Rereading the link on supportsoft site made me come to a conclusion and best if you uninstall it. Read this Quote: ActiveX Controls Security Update Through a security audit, we have been advised of a security vulnerability with certain older versions of our software. The vulnerability happens when SupportSoft software is used to fix a problem on an end-user's computer. During the course of resolving a technical problem, controls are installed on the end-user's PC. These controls can, in some limited instances, enable a hacker/attacker to exploit a user's system. SupportSoft believes that the possibility of a vulnerable system being accessed is small, and we are not aware that any vulnerable system has been exploited. Nonetheless, we take any security vulnerability extremely seriously and have been working with our Corporate customers to ensure that they have updates to our software which resolve these issues. With the public disclosure of this vulnerability by various security organizations, we felt it was important to make available updates for those controls which were affected. We have provided more detailed information related to this vulnerability and an update on the ActiveX Controls update page. "_Who" wrote: > That sound like it.
