Vr5fx Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 So my new PC of 3 months has started to make me upset, I've tried posting on it to no avail. The past 2 days it has been near on unusable, both under load and idle its been making clunking noise, each time it gets into a loop of this noise (clunk....clunkclunk [repeat]) windows hangs for 5-10 seconds. I tried uploading a video of it but decided to hang during upload so it failed. I also tried to post on here but got the hump and turned it off (using my tablet at the moment). I will try posting on it again later with the information that Speccy gives. Jelly Bean Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 That realy dont sound good, have you run chkdsk on the hard drive? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Synapse Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 It is goosed, will never work properly again. The noise you hear is the read head jumping back to park position, It won't check disc properly. Contact the supplier, it needs to go back under warranty :( Quote
KenB Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Hi, I have to agree with Synapse ..............it needs to go back under warranty. You are getting no errors with your S.M.A.R.T log - so presumably you can still boot up ? If you can I would advise you to recover all data off the drive that you want. When you return it the supplier will probably replace the drive - and you will lose anything on it. See here for an explanation as to what could be happening Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Vr5fx Posted March 28, 2012 Author Posted March 28, 2012 Took 6 attempts to boot to Windows this morning. 1st attempt it wanted a boot device and the rest were hanging on the Windows logo. I recently formatted hoping to cure the problem as before it only did it once a day or so, so I have no important data on it The thought of sending the whole PC back really annoys me, I'll message the seller and see what is said. That video you posted Ken is very useful, it does sound very similar to the problem I am having. Also, which is very odd, I'm not getting any clicking noise now.... It's rather peacful to be honest. KenB Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 You need to speak to the seller. Any clicking noises from a hard drive indicates a mechanical problem - even if it is intermittent. Do not tell the seller that you have had the hard drive out as this may void your warranty. Vr5fx Posted March 29, 2012 Author Posted March 29, 2012 I spoke to the seller via Ebay, and they were very helpful... I was honest with them straight away as I have modified the PC (Heatsink, fans ect) so it had all been stripped out at one point. The HDD is currently in the post back to them. Glad I haven't got to send the whole tower... Yay! Waiting to hear a reply now. KenB Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 If the drive is replaced the Operating System will need to be installed on the new drive. To do this they will need the case - unless they build all of their systems using the same hardware and motherboard. Vr5fx Posted April 3, 2012 Author Posted April 3, 2012 (edited) [solved] I imagine they could rebuild the same system (they still have the same build for sale) I received the replacement today. I have noticed a difference in noise, it's near on silent :) Only cost was the P+P to send the knackered HDD back to them, not a big deal, beats having to fork out for a brand new one.
