csrss process -- I/O Reads getting extremely large

On a couple of computers I've checked, the csrss.exe process in the task

manager sits at around 10,000,000 "I/O Read Bytes".

I checked this out because I happened to notice on my laptop that it grows

continually and within a few hours will even get up near 1.5-2Gb

[1,700,000,000].

I've run a virus checker and did a full scan. Nothing changed.

I am hoping someone can help me with letting me know some things to check --

perhaps I changed some settings one day and didn't realize the consequences

until later. I just don't know.

I also don't know if this is 'bad', but it just seems odd.

Any help whatsoever that anyone can provide would be just great.

Thank you.

Matt

Use Process Explorer and report back the full path to CSRSS.EXE

Re: csrss process -- I/O Reads getting extremely large

Thank you for replying. In the interim my IE has stopped being able to open

-- I don't know if this is related to this or not [if it is, it is a much

delayed response, as the IE issue just started, and this csrss problem has

been going on].

In any case, please let me know if this isn't what you were looking for...

C:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exe ObjectDirectory=\Windows

SharedSection=1024,3072,512 Windows=On SubSystemType=Windows

ServerDll=basesrv,1 ServerDll=winsrv:UserServerDllInitialization,3

ServerDll=winsrv:ConServerDllInitialization,2 ProfileControl=Off

MaxRequestThreads=16

It is currently using approx. 25% of the cpu, it looks like... at least from

what I can tell.

Is there something I could have done to the settings in the OS somewhere

that would have made this happen?

Again, any help would be great.

Thank you.

Re: csrss process -- I/O Reads getting extremely large

One followup note... I tested and was able to start IE when using the context

menu to "Start without Add-Ons".

So, I don't know if that makes it more or less related to the csrss issue...

but if it's unrelated I will work on it separately. I just wasn't sure what

information is important.

-- I did note that the csrss priority was set to high... only winlogon and

McShield have the priority this high [taskmgr and procexp do when running, I

suppose]. Not sure if this is the norm or not.
