Guest RJK Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I've just plugged a USB hd into a XP Home ed. system box, ( detected as drive E:\ ), and after choosing, in as many of the wizards' "Next / radio button" screens, I've selected that this is the "old" computer that I want to transfer files and settings from," and pointed the wizard to output to a folder called E:\briansfsw\ ,...and the wizard starts off, and then spends and inordinate amount of time examining a massive directory structure that I have on that external USB hd !!! ...should it be doing that ? i.e. I don't want gigabytes of stuff from my ext. hd, added to the "Transfer My Files & Settings Wizard," archive, from the source machine, if you see what I mean ! TIA, regards, Richard

You want to use the "Let me select a custom list of files and settings" option, then under "File Types" delete all the file types or at least the most common ones which are found on your system. -- Allan

In the end I solved it by, disconnecting external USB hd, ran the "Transfer my files and settings Wizard" output to a directory on the source machine, and then switched on ext. USB hd, and copied it from source boot-drive to USB hd myself ! regards, Richard
