Guest Marla Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 We have an existing Terminal Server/TLS using Per-Device licenses. Some of these licenses are expiring soon. We have purchased new Terminal Server Per-User licenses and a second Terminal Server/TLS. We would like to install half of the licenses on each Terminal Server/TSL for disaster response purposes. Each Terminal Server/TLS is located in a DMZ, but we have opened communication between the two servers just to each other. I am proposing to apply half of the new Per-User licenses to the second Terminal Server. As my 15 Per-Device licenses expire, will those users be able to access the Per-User licenses on the other licensing server, even if they are using the first Terminal Server? Seems like they would be able to, but I'm not sure. If I switch my first Terminal Server from Per-Device to Per-User, then I lose those Per-Device licenses, right? Let's say I do convert the first Terminal Server to Per-User. Say I have 20 users. I want all 20 to be using the first Terminal Server, but I only want to apply 10 Per-User licenses to each Terminal Server. That should work, right? Because one Per-User license allows that user to connect to more than one Terminal Server, right? Confusing as mud, I know. Thanks! -- Laughter is the best medicine
Guest Jeff Pitsch Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Re: Migrating from Per-Device to Per-User Licenses Everything you've typed is moot because terminal services does not keep track of per user licensing. Once you've switched the server to ask for per user, your done. No licensing or anything is actually handed out. I fyou have 20 licenses, technically, 5000 users could login and nothing would ever need to be done because per user licensing is not enforced in any way. -- Jeff Pitsch Microsoft MVP - Terminal Services "Marla" <marla@newsgroup.nospam> wrote in message news:11B9F22B-AA8C-4592-AAB5-13A9AD25F59A@microsoft.com... > We have an existing Terminal Server/TLS using Per-Device licenses.
