Server 2008: Downgrading to SMB1

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody,

I have a set of PDC and WTS running on Server 2008 (Enterprise x64). I have

problems accessing files that seem to be SMB related. Server 2008 uses SMB2.

Somebody told me that I could activate SMB1 on those servers.

I have created a 32Bit DWORD called SMB1 in

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrenControlSet\LanmanServer\Parameters and set the value to 1.

(on both servers)

This did not have any effect, netmon still reports SMB2.

Can anybody help?

Thanks for your time

Ole

Re: Server 2008: Downgrading to SMB1

Hello Ole,

SMB2 is used only if both machines support it, if this is not the case automatically

SMB1 is used:

http://trycatch.be/blogs/roggenk/archive/2007/11/04/smb-v2-0-in-windows-server-2008-amp-windows-vista.aspx

So in your case SMB2 is correct between 2008 servers.

What are the problems with accessing files? Please describe more detailed

and also post error messages and event viewer entries if exist.

Best regards

Meinolf Weber

Re: Server 2008: Downgrading to SMB1

Hi Meinolf,

I have posted my problems before. They are related to mup and mrxsmb. Many

applications crash, because they suddenly cannot access their files on the

server.

I have opened this Thread called "MrxSMB ID 50 Server 2008" on August 12th

without any response. (I don't know how to link to that thread in Windows

mail...)

Now, I have found out that SMB2 is definitely responsible for these crashes.

I have found out how to disable SMB2 and everything works fine now - for the

first time in 4 months(!!!)

Any ideas or comments on that?

Thanks for your help

Ole
