Guest Dave Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Hi Folks, I recently got a new laptop at work (A Lenovo x60). I installed WinXP Pro, and everything seemed to be OK for a while. However, after a few weeks, the laptop developed this quirk. If I lock the computer, and attempt to unlock the computer, the first time I attempt to enter my password, it is rejected. The second time, it works fine. (Very rarely it goes to three, but I think these might just be typos.) This happens almost all of the time. If the time between logout and login is very short (less than a minute) then the problem does not occur. If I put the machine in standby, or walk away for a few minutes, I will always have to enter my password twice. Sometimes the time to verify the password is very long (around 60 seconds) which leaves me twiddling my thumbs until I can try again. I'm using the wireless connection exclusively. The problem occurs whether I'm in range of my corporate network, or if I'm at home. Any ideas what might be happening? Thanks for any help in advance, - Dave
Guest JS Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Re: Logon fails on first attempt Could be related to hibernation when the computer is locked. What about 30 seconds before you enter the password and if it accepts it the first time you try. Try to wait as JS mentioned and see if it will be accepted from the first instance of typing it in. Does the Keyboard clean from crumbs and dust? What happen if you created another account and use a password for it, does it do the same? HTH, nass --- http://www.nasstec.co.uk
Guest Dave Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 RE: Logon fails on first attempt The waiting doesn't help at all. The problem happens when I hibernate the machine, but also when I just lock the machine and walk away without closing the lid. In the second case, the machine remains active, and does not go to sleep. Even in this case, the password will fail on first entry. RE Crumbs and Dust: I don't think that this is the issue. This problem has consistently occured since July or so, and I lock/login at least 15 times a day. Typically much more than that. Crumbs would account for the odd error, but not hundreds of the same thing. Unfortunately, I cannot create another user to try this with as the machine is part of a domain, and I do not have access to other user accounts. (I suppose I could create a local user though.) - Dave "nass" wrote: > > > "Dave" wrote: > > > Hi Folks, > > > > I recently got a new laptop at work (A Lenovo x60). Guest JS Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Re: Logon fails on first attempt Create a local user as you mentioned and test it.
