Guest TomC Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I have scanned many documents and saved them in a folder. Little did I realize at the time that the file name that was generated places semicolons in the time field. Now I need to copy these folders to a disk, and the software tells me that semicolons cannot be a part of the file name. Is there some way I can globally eliminate the semicolons in each file name in the folder or will I have to manually change every file name individually? Thanks for any help you can give me. Tomc

Tomc There are any number of file renaming programs out there. Sometimes I think that creating one is single most common assignment everyone receives in programming class. Personally I use "The Rename" http://www.herve-thouzard.com/modules/wfsection/article.php?articleid=3 because I'm used to it but a simple Google search will turn up dozens more and every one I've seen has been a freebie. There are difference is the interface and the capabilities but what you describe doing is dead simple -- a straightforward search in the file name and replace (or drop) a character. Guest TomC Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Re: change file names in folder John, I went to the web site and couldn't figure out how to download the rename software. Guess this web site is either too complicated for me or I'm just stupid. Thanks anyway for trying to help me.
