Jelly Bean Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Hello and welcome. I am afraid to say that this forum will not and cannot help with such things as passwords. It is against forum rules. We cannot prove the laptops belong to you or someone else.We are not saying that you are not the owner and need genuine help. Its against forum rulles and there fore cannot help but if you wish help with any other topic please feel free to ask. JB. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
gardeningmatt Posted April 14, 2012 Author Posted April 14, 2012 we are charity i do iy voulintary this guy has made the lappys almost usless for the comunity Quote
Plastic Nev Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 If it can be proved that the locking out of these charity owned laptops was done maliciously, I would at least recommend consulting solicitors/lawyers as this may be firstly a civil matter rather than criminal. gardeningmatt Posted April 15, 2012 Author Posted April 15, 2012 thanks nev id rather not go tht far just crack his pass he has a pass on the bios as well as the admin pass. anyway thanks any help apreciated matt Quote
Plastic Nev Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Sorry, as Jelly Bean said, we cannot help regarding passwords themselves or means to crack them. My only other suggestion is to ask this person why has it been done and what purpose does it achieve. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. gardeningmatt Posted April 15, 2012 Author Posted April 15, 2012 he done it so tht we had to keep going back to him for everything even somethign simple like adding a printer or an update sending in lots of bills untill he almost bankrupt us so now we have 10 about yr old lappys tht we cant do to much with :( Quote
KenB Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 the admin password holder has locked us out them Is this person the actual owner of the laptops ? this guy has made the lappys almost usless for the comunity Almost useless ?? If you are locked out you cannot use them at all !! he has a pass on the bios as well as the admin pass. So - whoever he is is determined that you should not gain access to these machines. he done it so tht we had to keep going back to him for everything Why would you go back to him if you cannot access the machines in the first place ? sending in lots of bills untill he almost bankrupt us If you cannot access the machines why would you need to contact this guy so that he can send you a bill? This thread does not read correctly. You say that you are a charity and that you have 10 laptops that have a BIOS and an Admin password. The admin password holder has the BIOS and Admin area pass-worded. Let me make an educated guess here ............... You have access to these machines but only as a guest. You cannot install or change anything. Downloading is limited or not allowed at all. You need Admin approval for anything that you wish to do. If I was a charity making 10 laptops available to the general public this is exactly what I would do. Am I correct so far ? gardeningmatt Posted April 16, 2012 Author Posted April 16, 2012 u are correct he sold the llaptops to us but retained the admin pass as he kept chargeing silly amounts to do anything the charity wanted to take back control of the laptops he refused to do this the new guy looked at the laptops and said he cannot crack the pass because the bios pass he has also proved to us tht the guy put office 2010 and photoshop on the lappys and they are ilegal copys but we payed for full price onees and license we have no backups for the lappys no acess and non origina software the guy is refusing to give us these items obv in the software case because they dont exist and as for the passes idk understand the reason why lots members of the local comunity use them reguarly so they need to be maintained etc. has been going on for yr now so things like the anti virus software has run out but notheing can be done about it without admin acess. its like the charity owning a car without the keys in my mind absolutey crazy he has no write to hold them like he is. we do not really want to go to the police over it as its seems a lil silly. would just like to get back control of the lappys so we can find a new administrator. any sugestions be good thanks matt Quote
Plastic Nev Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 If what you now say is true, this is definitely a case for the police. Don't mess around any more, that guy needs to be sorted by the law, not us. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. KenB Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 If these laptops belong to your charity - and you have not said what this is - then you have every right to full access to them. If they were donated by the guy with the passwords or sold cheaply with the understanding that he maintains them then you have no recourse. Which one is it ? I assume that this guy runs a business ? If so you could have a word with Trading Standards. Trading Standards should be able to give you a lot more information than we can. gardeningmatt Posted April 16, 2012 Author Posted April 16, 2012 the charity applied for a grant wich was awarded so tht makes them the chairtys property he just sold them to the charity he never set them up properly in my mind and like i say ilegal copys of software wen they paid for genuine ones. Quote
KenB Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 A phone call to Trading Standards is your starting point. If you need to you can also take him to the small claims court - this costs you nothing. You could also contact the people who awarded the grant and ask them for their advice. if they are a big organisation they may take up your case for you. Jelly Bean Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Im going to add to this thread. I do NOT belive any of this is true Matt. I work in the volunatry sector and have done for many years helping to run charitable organisations.I also was the main source of computer repairs for two organisations.I also repaired users of the buildings laptops and computers.Ive also been on commities applying for Lottery funded grants. So please do not try and tell me I am wrong. I know how the system works. And what you have written realy is untruthfull. Anyone with an ounce of common sence would of called the police. However charitable organisations have a network of FREE help such as computer repairs.I know of other organisations in Wales and England who also have FREE help. In days of real trouble ,the offices that fund these charitable organisations such as the Council,Gwalia,Red Cross,Barnardos and so on have a main head office that can be brought in to help with this situation. I also know many organisations who are donated computers and laptops. I agree fully with KenBs findings and my own. My opinion therefor is that this thread and your plea for help realy dont settle well with me. I there for will offer no further help with this situation. JB. KenB Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 It would be interesting to hear what they had to say. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
