Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Re: Cannot Format If you are trying to format your system drive from within Windows you can't do that, you have to boot off your XP CD and format it during the setup process or boot to the recovery console and use the diskpart command. -- ---- Crosspost, do not multipost http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 Help Us Help You http://dts-l.net/goodpost.htm "teak" <teak@linuxmail.org> wrote in message news:3a6fe0a1-3256-4e99-a899-0f96205707ff@b38g2000prf.googlegroups.com... >I tried to format the disk. You can't. This would be the computer equivalent of sawing off the tree limb you're sitting on, and WinXP is "too smart" to allow this. After backing up any data you wish to transfer to the new OS installation,, simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll be offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
