BenchZowner Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Download HCI Design's memtest for windows, and open up as many instances as required to test all your available RAM ( each instance has a maximum memory to test limit, can't recall the exact number ) and have it test your RAM up to 500%. If any errors occur stop the testing process and report back here :) Quote
mutame Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 I've ran 3 multiple copies of MemTest at the same time during 20 hours: no errors found. In the manual they say: "You can also run MemTest Pro while you use your computer for other tasks, which will help identify memory errors which only show up while the computer is under load." So maybe I'dd better buy that version to test that? Quote
mutame Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 After I wrote this, I was surfing on this forum and after 3 pages, the screen froze and windows crashed :-( Quote
BenchZowner Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I'm afraid that at this point you need to start troubleshooting using the part elimination technique ( meaning: try different hardware parts that are known to work fine, one by one on your PC to see which part causes your issues ). If you've got a buddy with similar/compatible hardware with yours, it's time to convince him to come over and help you troubleshoot the PC by swapping parts one by one until you find the culprit. If you have a camera and don't mind, you should also take shots of your BIOS menus ( all of them ) and upload them so we can see your settings and see if there's a badly set parameter or loosening/raising some setting might help in solving your issues. BenchZowner Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Sorry about the delay mate, I had a lot of work to do this weekend. I'll try to give you a BIOS settings list to try later on, or tomorrow in the morning :) Quote
mutame Posted May 9, 2012 Author Posted May 9, 2012 Ok.no problem. I'm already very happy that I get help :-) Quote
mutame Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 (edited) Today I flashed the bios with the latest bios downloaded from Asus (http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=nl-nl&p=1&m=P5Q+PRO&hashedid=qH6ZSEJ8EPY6HoNU) This time I could install windows 7 64 bit WITHOUT any problems !! So I also installed the other programs, surfed on the internet about 15 minutes, so far no problem! I think that the big problem with this pc is solved and tomorrow I return it to my nephew who will use his computer again (and then also test it by surfing on the net, listen to music and playing some demanding games). Hopefully everything continues to work... ;-) Especially for BenchZowner : sincerely thank you for all your help! I've learned a bit more about the possibilities for testing various hardware parts and it's also because you mentioned the bios settings that I thought of flashing the bios :-) Tamara.
