Janeygee Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I am using OE6 for EMail. Normally when I check my EMail, it connects to my primary account (DBMail) and then my old account , which was left over from my old ISP. Yesterday, when I checked, it connected fine with primary account, but then failed showing :- The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.free.fr', Server: 'pop.free.fr', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Could someone point me along the "Road to recovery" please. I can get to the account via the website, but it is inconvenient. Thanks in advance. Quote
RandyL Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 It's a generic error code that indicates it can't connect to the mail server. In your case it's probably because most ISP's won't allow the use of a mail client unless you are a paying customer. Quote We are all members helping other members. Janeygee Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 I only use it to "receive" any mails that have been sent to me. I have not been a "paying customer" for 3 years now, but have been receiving EMails throughout all that time Quote
RandyL Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 In that case I can only think of three possibilities. Their POP server is down. Your firewall is blocking the port. Your OE settings are incorrect. I would like to link you to the correct settings but I'm betting your old ISP was in France. I don't read French I'm afraid. In case someone else does could you verify your old ISP? RandyL Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 This must be the ISP but I can't search the site for the settings since I can't read French. http://www.free.fr/adsl/internet.html Quote We are all members helping other members. KenB Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Hi Randy I found this that may help http://postmaster.free.fr/index_en.html On the site they say they have introduced a new platform ( Zimbra ) It could be that the old forwarding options have been removed. It is unusual to continue receiving mail 3 years after moving away. Janeygee If you go onto the site can you still log in with your old username and password? If not I would suggest that the account has been closed. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Janeygee Posted April 24, 2012 Author Posted April 24, 2012 Hi, I can still access EMail via the "Free.fr" website, just logging in to webmail, with no problem. Do you think it's just because they have changed to a new email platform, and not bothered adding my account ? Quote
KenB Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Hi Janeygee From what I read ( if I understood it correctly ) the old accounts are still there but the new "Zimbra" is an option. If this is the case then there should be no problem. If you can still log in then your account is still there. Can you see new emails after you have logged in ? Can you open them from there ? Janeygee Posted April 24, 2012 Author Posted April 24, 2012 After I have logged on to webmail at the "Free.fr" website, using the email address and my password, I can access all my EMails ( Just as I do if I am on holiday and use an internet cafe ) The problem is that when I try to access them via Outlook Express, I get the error message shown previously. I have not changed anything with firewall etc. it's something that just "happened" between shutdown one night and re-booting next day. ? Quote
RandyL Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 If they did change their server settings you would have to manually change your OE settings to match SMTP, POP, SSL, Port numbers etc. The problem with that is I don't know what they are. If you read French you may be able to search the site for the right settings. Most ISP's have that information online. If something did happen to change on your end (I've seen OE settings change by themselves believe it or not) then a system restore should change the settings back if I remember correctly. Janeygee Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 Thanks, I shall check their site for the info. I'm sure that one of the "set-up" details, port number etc. has just changed itself ( as they do ). Quote
