william89 Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Years ago i knew all there was to know a out computers, got out of it for a few years and now things have passed me by. I am looking to get a new laptop/desktop and am wondering what i should get. Mostly it will be used for email, facebook, facebook games, PhotoShop (light use)........nothing to system intensive. I am looking at a nice AMD laptop with a quad core at 1.6ghz (i think)....then i got to wondering, does windows 7 and google chrome (the browser i use) utilize all 4 cores or would i be better off getting a dual core at 2.4ghz. And am i right to assume an i3 has 2 cores, i5 has 2 or 4 and a i7 has 4 or 6? To narrow down my questions.... Should i get AMD or Intel? Should i get a Dual or a Quad? Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Hello and welcome. Firstly choice of CPU is a personal choice, some like Intel some like AMD.I am an AMD girl. Both are good and AMD is a little cheaper than Intel. If you are just a general surfer,Facebook, downloading, uploading and some software like photoshop and NOT a high ended game player you realy only need a dual core. But if you can buy a quad for around the same price then its because you can afford it.But you may get a quad core AMD for the price of an Intel dual core. I certainly would go for more of a 3.0 on your cores if you choose either maker.Plus at least 4 gig RAM/Memory. A computer/laptop use both the dual core and quad core will utilise all the cores during usage. You can get a desktop icon or app for free and it will show you as you use the computer that all cores are being utilised. Do you have any brand computer in mind? JB.
