Greeley Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Hello there, i was wondering if somebody can help me. I've had this problem for quite a while now and i'm completely baffled by it, normally i can sort out majority of the problems that i get with my computer but this one has left me puzzled for months. Half a year ago i was able to use all my jack's for my headset and the mic & headphone sockets would work perfectly fine. When i moved house and didn't use my headset for a few months it's just stopped working. The whole front panel will not work (USB + power button is fine) but my mic and headphone jack's do not (sometimes i can get the headphone socket to work), even when plugged in, i go to the 'Recording Devices' menu and it says 'not plugged in' when it clearly is. Now my headphone jack will work fine in the back and technically my mic socket works fine too but it wont let me record any sound. (It will say it recognizes something is plugged in but i still can't record any sound). My headset is fine as i use it on my macbook pro to talk on skype, ventrillo ect.... Its a simple headset with a headphone and a mic jack-in. I just do not understand what the problem could be. I've opened up my computer and everything is plugged in fine, all the little prongs for the front panel is in correctly. Here's some details of my computer that may help: Intel Core i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz Gigabyte X58A-OC Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard Asus Xonar DG 5.1 PCI Sound Card Quote
Jelly Bean Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Hello and welcome. Right you have ruled out the headset wich is a good thing. Ok now I sugest you download and install the Realtek driver and software and install it but do so while your headset is plugged in. http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false Click on I accept to the above then click next. Choose your operating system then under download tab choose a site. Install. This may require a reboot of your computer to install. However are you running Windows 8 as this maybe your problem and drivers may not be avilable yet. If the driver install ok test your head set if it still not working there will be a little brown speaker icon on your task bar use it to configure the jack ports as in assign a port to a jack socket. I have now just borrowed my mates USB adaptor and it does notice there is a mic and headphone thing now but still doesnt recognise any speech or voice. Which makes me think my computer has an actual problem with trying to accept input sounds. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Hi, from your computer spec you have a PCI sound card, the Asus Xonar DG 5.1. Have you tried the on board sound with that card removed from the slot? Power off before removing to prevent damage. Let us know if the on board sound works with the card out. Nev.
