PeterD Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Hi, I found some old "floppy disks" in a cupboard recently and thought I would try them out. On the disks it says that they are formatted. If I try to open the disk to see if there is anything on it it says it is not formatted and would I like to format it. If I click Yes it says that it cannot be formatted. If I try to load something onto the disk I get the same result. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am running WXP Home on a desktop. PeterD. Quote
RandyL Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Floppy disks always were unreliable. Either the disks are bad or your floppy drive is bad. Both could cause that message. If you can write to other disks then you know the drive is ok. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. KenB Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 They have probably deteriorated - they don't last forever. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
Jelly Bean Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I agree, either floppy drive is in need of replacing or the floppy disk its self are broken. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Plastic Nev Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Also, don't forget that most floppy disks have a data protection lock on them, make sure the lock is open, otherwise it won't reformat or accept new data. It is a tiny switch on the side of the disk case. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
