Hi,

I found some old "floppy disks" in a cupboard recently and thought I would try them out. On the disks it says that they are formatted. If I try to open the disk to see if there is anything on it it says it is not formatted and would I like to format it. If I click Yes it says that it cannot be formatted. If I try to load something onto the disk I get the same result.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am running WXP Home on a desktop.

Floppy disks always were unreliable. Either the disks are bad or your floppy drive is bad. Both could cause that message. If you can write to other disks then you know the drive is ok.

Also, don't forget that most floppy disks have a data protection lock on them, make sure the lock is open, otherwise it won't reformat or accept new data. It is a tiny switch on the side of the disk case.
