Drayton Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 I am looking to get some more ram, at the moment i have 4GB of Patriot Memory Viper II Sector 5 Series 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz CL7 DIMM 240-pin but want to upgrade to 8gb. Can anyone recommend some good ram for gamming, would it be best to get another 4gb of ram or just get 8gb of totaly new ram as can't find ram close to timings of current ram and think i read this might causes problems. My motherboard is a ASUS P7P55D iP55 so can fit 16GB 1600/1333/1066 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory Looking at some 1600mhz ram for about £35 from ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/342352-crucial-8gb-2x4gb-ddr3-1600mhz-ballistix-sport-memory-kit-cl10-1-5v-bls2cp4g3d1609ds1s00 So what post your ideas what you think would be best for me to do. KenB Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Hi Drayton and welcome to ExTS Is your Operating System 32bit or 64bit ? If it is 32 bit you are wasting your money as 32 bit systems can only utilise about 3.5GB RAM - so 4GB is the max for this system. I think the voltage settings on your Patriot are 1.65v whilst the voltage of the Crucial is1.5v ( check ) I don't think you would be able to mix these two without problems. There are some folk who would disagree - but personally I would play safe and use RAM of the same voltage. You can mix the frequencies - 1600 / 1333 The RAM will all run at the lowest - in this case 1333 MHz Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Drayton Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 Found these, they look ok, http://www.ebuyer.com/310971-crucial-ballistix-8gb-kit-4gbx2-ddr3-1333-mt-s-pc3-10600-cl7-performance-udimm-blt2cp4g3d1337dt1tx0 What do you think Quote
KenB Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Crucial are a good make. However - if you are keeping your old modules you are still mixing voltages. ( 1.5 + 1.65 v ) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
Drayton Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 No if I am going with 8GB i will replace what I got so will probably got the Crucial Quote
KenB Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 You may need to check in the BIOS that the voltage is set correctly when you get the new RAM. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
