unable to load a program.

Progam loads OK on computer A

On <my> computer, it says

something like "std plug in IDE.ACDStd.apl cannot be loaded"

and ACDSee will therefore not work.

 

I have turned off AVG

is there anything else I may have forgotton to disable

before clicking the exe file?

 

Can I try and load in safe mode?

Did you "borrow" your friend's install CD for ACDsee? Or did you do an

install using a legit CD? What happens when you uninstall and reinstall

the product?

I borrowed a friends install CD.

I have my own install, legitimate and paid for

it will not load, and I thought it a problem with my registration number

I thought maybe I had written it down incorrectly.

 

Your advice would not assist.

I can download a free 3.1 version as a trial basis

I am happy to pay for it, I would even pay current version price

alas! the version is now out of date, and ACDSee does not support it

so will not sell it to me.

 

Seems I am in a loop with no resolution.

 

When I uninstall and reinstall I am met with the same problem.

ACDsee is a company name, not a product name, so I don't with which

product you are having troubles. That's like saying "I have Symantec

installed" but Symantec makes dozens, maybe hundreds, of different

programs ranging from consumer to enterprise products. ACDsee has their

Photo Manager (non-Pro and Pro), Photo Editor, Photo Print, Real

Optimizer, Canvas, LapLink PCSync, and LapLink PCmover products. The

only that I saw that might be called just by ACDsee is their "ACDsee

Pro" product which is really the Pro version of their Photo Manager.

From the tiny images of the retail packaging for their products, it

appears they label their ACDsee 10 Photo Manager with the title "ACDsee

10" (which is $35 for current ACDsee users). If that's your program,

yep, version 3.1 would be pretty old. On their web site, I saw no page

for downloads of trial versions, so I also did not see a trial download

for an old version 3.1 that you mentioned. I do see later trial

versions at other software download sites (http://www.download.com,

http://www.softpedia.com).

 

I did see in their products of one named PowerPressed which is a plug-in

but to MS Office, not to an ACDsee product. When I went to

http://www.acdsee.com/support, I didn't see "3.1" listed as a version

for any product. Maybe that version is so old that it won't run on

Windows XP. If what you have is their "ACDsee" product which is really

their Photo Manager product, the version 10 system requirements are at

http://store.acdsee.com/store/acd/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.78701300.

For a really old 3.1 version, it may only run under DOS/Win9x.

Presumably "my computer" in your original post is running Windows XP and

why you asked for help here. What version of Windows is running on

"computer A" where you say this product works okay?

I have had my legal ACDSee 3.1 working on my XP for years,

 

Looking at my install log it looks like ROBOex32.dll is getting overwritten

somehow

perhaps that's it.

 

Computer A was a similar XPSP2

 

Yes 3.1 is years old, it's slim, lean and loads in nanoseconds

I manipulate 400,000 images with it, and it fits like an old slipper.

If push comes to shove I'll reload windows and see if that corrects it.

You might want to test inside a virtual machine first. VMWare Server is

free. So is Virtual PC from Microsoft. I use WMware because it has the

option to save a snapshot so I can restore to a baseline or known prior

state for the virtual machine. Revert to snapshot, zap, back to

scratch.

 

Do a fresh install of Windows XP in the virtual machine. No updates.

Save a snapshot. In the base install of Windows XP, install the ACDsee

product to see if it works okay. If so, revert to the snapshot. ACDsee

is gone and any changes made by it. Then visit the Windows Update site

and apply all critical and recommended updates (but NO hardware updates

offered there). After all updates are complete, save a snapshot. With

a fully updated copy of Windows XP, now try installing ACDsee. If it

fails, a service pack, patch, or other update caused the interference.

If ACDsee works under the fully patched version of Windows XP then it

certainly looks like you have a conflict between ACDsee and some other

software on "my computer" that isn't on "computer A". In the VM, revert

to the snapshot (to remove ACDsee) and start installing your other apps

one by one. After each single other product install, see if an install

of ACDsee works without problems. If no problem, uninstall ACDsee

(through Add/Remove Programs), install the next program, and test ACDsee

again. You may then find which program is causing the conflict.

 

When I first saw "IDE.ACDStd.apl", I thought it might have something to

do with the IDE controllers for hard disks (Integrated Device

Electronics). However, the .apl extension mentioned at http://www.filext.com

might mean that some library file (of functions) is what is provided by

this file. IDE could also mean Integrated Development Environment (as

in a GUI for programming). Could mean something completely different.

Did you search your hard drive to see if this file exists, including

hidden files in the search? Did you look on the install CD?

 

Did you visit their forums yet? I did a seach on "IDE.ACDStd.apl"

and got http://community.acdsee.com/forums/search.php?q=IDE.ACDStd.apl.

I don't know if they maintain an archive of old posts so you could check

if any old posts addressed your old version.

I requested acdsee forum, they wouldn't let me on

until they checked me out.

I have just finally received an email that apparently I am OK,

and I can post on their forums.

BTW I checked "IDE.ACDStd.apl" it is on the install

and is resident when I load the program (that doesn't work)

So it's there, but it won't load or wo'nt work properly.

Is there an plug-in or add-on management panel in the options for the

program? Or can't you get that far to see?
