SimonF Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 We have a Talktalk wired internet connection with a Huawei modem all working fine. I bought an Asus Eee PC netbook that I intended to use with a wireless connection. It has Windows 7. I have used this in wi-fi spots such as airports without problem. I have also used it at home with an ethernet cable. Both were fine. However at home it will not connect wirelessly. It recognises the signal from the router and gives me the option to do the necessary (I am not technical) by pressing the WPS button. It then appears to go through a set up routine but fails to connect and displays the message "the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements for the network". I phoned TT - completely useless just washed their hands of the situation. Is there anyone out there who could hazard a guess as to the problem? Thanks in advance Simon F  Quote
KenB Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Hi Simon Start > Run .....type in .....devmgmt.msc .............click the + next to Network Adapters. 1. Is there a yellow exclamation mark next to the entry with WiFi in it ? (there will be a Network Interface Card listed too ) 2. Please let me know exactly what is listed as a WiFi adapter. 3. If you click on the monitor icon ( bottom right of screen ) can you see your home network? 4. If you can - try to connect - you will need the Network Key ( on the back or underneath the router ) 5. If you can't see your network can you see any of your neighbours networks ? We need to know exactly what is listed for the Wireless Adapter - we may need to delete the drivers later and we need to know which ones to re-install. :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! SimonF Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 Hello Ken "Run" is different in Windows 7 from XP so hope I have done this correctly. Under network adaptors it says: > 802.11n Wireless LAN > Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller (NDIS6.20) > Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) > Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI) > Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adaptor May be of interest, the next heading down is "? Other devices" under which there is > ! Unknown device There is no monitor icon just an icon like the signal strength on a mobile. Here it offers only one connection: Talktalk - 16B6DO with a red cross against it. If you click on this it says: "the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements for the network" and the "connect" button is greyed out. Incidentally, I was in Costas yesterday and it listed a whole heap of connections. Very grateful for your help Simon F . Quote
KenB Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Hi Simon Sorry for the confusion ( Xp - 7 ) I looked at the OS below your forum name when replying. Reading this again I suspect the problem may lie with the WPS setup. The simple test is to disable this and go manual. WPS = WiFi Protected Setup. You didn't give me the model number of your router so I have no access to a manual. Usually you can access the router settings using the following method: Open Internet Explorer and in the address bar ( where it says http//www. ..............) delete all of that line and type in .. 192.168.1.1 If this gets you to the login screen the user name and password should both be admin. Once inside the router settings have a look around ( I cannot be more specific ) and see if you can find WPS enable / disable Disable this and save the settings. Try connecting to your network again. If it says it is unsecured we can do this manually ( I will need the manual for this ) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! SimonF Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 Hi Ken Apologies - one for delayed response (working long hours) and two for probably being thick. I have gone in as you suggested and accessed the gateway, then into advanced and then WLAN - once in there I have seen WPS enable / disable - would this be the one? BTW - the router is an EchoLife HG532. As ever ... thanks Simon Quote
KenB Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I have seen WPS enable / disable Yep - that's it. Can you disable it and then SAVE the changes. With a bit of luck you should be able to connect to your own network Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! KenB Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 That is good to hear Simon. Did you have to use the network key to access you network ? You need to - as if you didn't it is unsecured. SimonF Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 Did you have to use the network key to access you network? You need to - as if you didn't it is unsecured. I am going to sound vague here. I entered the router set-up via the browsers but I am not aware of interacting with a network ... Quote
KenB Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 You DO have internet access now ???? Do you have the monitor icon bottom right of your screen ? If so - right click on this > Connect to a Network If you point your screen curser ( arrow ) at your network you should get some data shown Name Signal Strength Security Type .....................it is this that I am talking about. If it says WEP or WPA2 then you are ok. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
