aquaman Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Hi I've just got a new desktop, which I have set up away from my router. It's only in the next room and about 7 metres away from the router, but the signal is pants and connection drops out every 2 minutes. I think that my wireless PCI card is a basic model. what's the best option to boost the wireless signal? 1. A high gain wifi antenna? or 2. A better Wireless PCI Card? - such as http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/networking/wirelessnetworking/wirelesspcicards/nov-npci.html What other options are available? I want to spend as little as possible. Thanks Quote
KenB Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 If you are only 7 metres away there should be no problem - even with a cheap Wireless Adapter and router. What is the make and model number of : 1. your Desktop 2. your Router When you do have a connection - if you point the screen curser ( arrow ) at the small icon bottom right of screen that looks like 2 monitors ......how many vertical green bars can you see? How old is the router ? I had problems recently with the router dropping the connection and a replacement sorted this. aquaman Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 Thank you for picking me up. I called virgin as I discovered that they had given me such a pants router, so after a moan I have a new one....problem solved. Thanks anyway! Quote
KenB Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 problem solved. Thanks for getting back to me - pleased that your problem is solved. I had problems recently with the router dropping the connection and a replacement sorted this. It seems that we have both been victims of rogue routers :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
