rekkah Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Hi there. I have an acer touchscreen PC with inbuild DVD/CD Drive. It used to work perfectly until - literally out of the blue one day - it stopped working. I have tried updating / deleting & reinstalling all drivers. I have tried PC on safe mode. I have deleted upper & lower values in regedit. I have tried the Microsoft fix it for me pages. I bought a USB connected external disc drive - and it has the same problem. I have got a lens cleaner and cleaning disc. In my computer the drive(s) are showing. (E for the inbuilt, D for the USB one.) When I insert a disc it spins and makes noise as if it's trying to load, then stops. It does this a few times then goes silent. When I click on the drive it says enter disc. It did once work again, for about 5 minutes - then stopped. I've tried everything I can find - any ideas? xx Quote
Jelly Bean Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Hello and welcome. Have you tried a CD/DVD disk cleaner? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
KenB Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS I have got a lens cleaner and cleaning disc. Presumably you tried this ( hence J-B's question :) ) I bought a USB connected external disc drive - and it has the same problem. This I don't understand. Do all other USB devices work properly? D for the USB one This is odd too as D:\ is usually ( not always ) reserved for a second partition on the hard drive. Acer usually allocate this as "DATA D:\" Does your hard drive only have one partition ? rekkah Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 All other USB connections work fine. Just checked and you're right, my hardrive is split into two partitions, C & D, disc drive is E and external USB drive is something else. Just tried restoring computer to factory setting too and nothing. Any other ideas? :( Quote
KenB Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 It is likely that your "internal" DVD Drive has died - they don't last forever. Can you try the USB one in another computer to see if that actually does work ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! KenB Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 We have had this before with USB devices. ( Work on one system but not another ) Have you tried all of the USB ports on the problem machine ? It could be the 5v side of the PSU that is not supplying enough power to run the drive. Things like memory sticks require very little power but a DVD drive would require more. It could be a lack of current on the USB ports that explains why it works on one but not the other system. Do you have an external hard drive ( or can you borrow one ) ? Plug this into your system. If this doesn't work as well it is a power issue with the USB ports. Do the USB ports work with other devices ( memory stick for instance ) ?
