when moving cursor it will stop for 2-3 sec then move for 1-2 sec then

stop again. - mostly happens when it has been sitting idle for a long

time.

rebooting system will fix it for a while

when it happens I get some strange messages from my desktop that

something is trying to communicate using a strange protocol and on an

invalid address.

my router fills up with logon attempts from the laptop even though the

laptop is logged on and connected.

DTC's is spiking CPU usage to 89% - on the desktop max is < 1%

service.exe is reaching 5.3% and the desktop is < 1%

what is going on.

From the post heading, I would assume the mouse is the "touch pad".

If so, the OP should try and external mouse.

Also go to the laptop manufacturer and see about an updated driver for the touch pad.

It sounds like a spyware or trojan infection... the cursor problem could be

related or separate but in any case you need to scan your computers for

posible infections. Install "A-squared HiJackFree 3.1.0.16" top detect a

possible hijack and to clean infections, install at lest one security

application: In order of preference; "A-Squared Free", (not same app)

"Malwarebytes Anti-Malware", "Super Antispyware" & "Spyware Terminator"

Also delete your cookies, Temporary Internet Files, System Temp files and

User Temp files... "CCleaner" is particularly handy for the cleanup task. Be

aware that this application installs with everything checked by default and

you need to uncheck what you want to preserve like history, historials,

autocomplete and passwords. Avoid the included Registry Scanner in CCleaner

and follow experts advice not to tamper with the windows registry.

And after you've cleaned your systems, run the "Symantec Security Check" to

get an idea of where are your system security defficiencies and take the

appropriate action.

If the cursor keeps behaving strangely at the end, you may need to update

the mouse or touchpad driver or in caser you're using a mouse on the laptop,

install a "Synaptics driver" to solve a possible touchpad-mouse conflict.
