carlr Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Hi, I have just rented a desk in an office and I’m trying to connect to the wifi hot spot that’s there. I can connect to it with my phone, ipad and Acer net book however when i try to connect using my Aspire 6930 it starts to connect then says, This computer is connected to (Routers name) but dose not have access to the internet. If you are connecting to a wireless hotspot, you might need to open a web browser to finish connecting...... when i open my browser it should load the login screen to the wifi hotspot but doesn’t??? :( I have tried with deferent browsers, updated my wifi drivers but nothing works???? Please it would be so helpful if you guys have any ideas??? Thanks. Quote
KenB Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Hi carlr and welcome to ExTS This computer is connected to (Routers name) Is this your home router or the Hotspot ? If you right click on the monitor icon ( bottom right of screen ) can you see the Hotspot listed ? Is the above the results when you try to connect to it this way ? carlr Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 Hi KenB, thanks for replying. Its not my home router its at work. i rent a desk and theres wifi there. they give you the user name and password which you put in on the landing page that opens up in a browser after you connect. it works fine with my acer net book but just not working with my acer aspire 6930. so i turn on computer right click at the bottom of the screen to connect to a network i find the router and click connect. it start to connect and then says, This computer is connected to (Routers name) but dose not have access to the internet. If you are connecting to a wireless hotspot, you might need to open a web browser to finish connecting...... Now when i use my netbook and i open the web browser it loads there login screen i then put user name and pass word in and away i go however with my aspire 6930 when i open the web browser it dosnt load the login on page???? they dont have tech support there and im going mad keep trying, im sure it must be some sort of setting on my computer as im netbook is fine and phone logs in ok too? Any thoughts??.... Thanks Quote
KenB Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Is the laptop Win 7 ? Do you know if you have it set to allocate IP and DNS address automatically ? connected to (Routers name) That's why I asked - I wanted to know if it was still saying it was connected to your home network or the Hotspot. I assume it is the Hotspot ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test

KenB Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Hi again I am on Vista at the moment but I think it is the same .... Start > Control Panel > Network & Sharing Center > manage Network Connections ( left side ) > click on Wireless Network Connection > Properties ( bottom left ) > Highlight TCP/IPv4 by clicking on it > Properties It should say there. If yours is different I can check on my Win 7 machine for you. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! carlr Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 HI, Ok got there, its wasnt set to set to allocate IP and DNS address automatically. the ones highlited were use the following IP address and use the following DNS server address. I have now click them to automatic. is this right? Quote
KenB Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 That is what I was going to suggest that you do - but also to make a note of the settings so that you could revert to them if necessary. Can you connect to the Hotspot now ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
