Guest Dennis B Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I have built my first T.S. and did the initial install of the applications. I did not see in any of the documentation I could find what happens to service packs. I set the server to install mode and then did the installation of the applications and then set the server back to execute mode. I want to install service packs now, some of which will do reboots, so do I go back into install mode for just the service pack or should I have done all the service packs while I was originally in install mode? What if they reboot to finish up the service pack install, will the server stay in Install mode during a reboot? How do I deal with future service packs: uninstall the application and redo the installation including all service packs? Can I just install the service pack without going into install mode or do I go into install mode just for the service pack? These issues to dot seem to be documented in the various guides and books I have seen. Thanks. Dennis B
Guest Jeff Pitsch Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Re: Application Installation and Update You always want to be in install mode when doing application installation and updates. It looks like your over thinking this. Applications and updates can be installed at any time, just make sure that no other users are on the system at the time of the installations. Make sure the server is in install mode, make sure to switch back to execute mode. If the server reboots, it should come back up in execute mode but you can confirm simply by running /query instead of /install or /execute. The critical piece is making sure no users are on the system at the time you do these installations.
