Guest Chris Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Q1: what's the limit of kernel memory for 32 bit windows? I thought it's 2 GB (virtual memory space) but one of our vendor support said it's 128 MB. Q2: what's the limit for 64 bit OS? any articles or reference will be good. Thanks.
Guest Dusko Savatovic Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Re: can someone help me understand Kernel memory I'm replying from a 32-bit Vista with 1GB memory. My Task Manager says that I have total 142 MB of Kernel memory. So it is definitely not 128 MB. It's probably not 2GB either, because there are some other system stuff apart from kernel dweling in the 2GB address space that is reserved for the OS. Good source would be Mark Rusinovich's blog on sysinternals.com (now part of Microsoft web). He is coauthor of some good books, Inside Windows 2000, etc. You may also ask in developer's forums.
