Guest Man T Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Anyway I can find out my on-board sound card has hardware conflict with other hardware? Or they are using the same interrupt? I check from Device Manager my on-board sound card is device 4.
Guest John John (MVP) Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Re: Hardware conflict In the Device Manager click on the View menu and select "Resources by type" or "Resources by connection". There isn't really anything that you can do about IRQ assignments, to manually change IRQ's you *must* reinstall Windows and force the installation to use a Standard PC HAL. Hi, I got these readings when I selected "Resources by type": ? (PCI) 11 Multimedia Controller ? (PCI) 11 Multimedia Video Controller (PCI) 23 NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator (PCI) 23 NVIDIA nForce4 Serial ATA Controller However, it does not look like the problem I am looking for. I am looking for if there is any conflict of my on-board sound card conflict because my on-board sound card does not work anymore.

Make sure that the sound controller is enabled (in the BIOS). Did you try reinstalling the drivers? John

The PC does not give any audio at all for the last 4 days. When I bootup the XP and shut down there is also NO sound.

If this only started 4 days ago perhaps a system restore to an earlier date might fix the problem. John

In the Device Manager, what should I look for in the Sounds and Audio Devices settings? I noticed there are several 'speaker' icons.

Are you seeing any yellow exclamation marks in the Device Manager? Do you have a speaker icon in the taskbar notification area? John

Yes, I see a speaker icon in the taskbar notification area (bottom right hand corner). And also the 'Sound Manager' in the same taskbar notification area. This 'Sound Manager' is the program comes with ASUS motherboard.

Did you run the Sound Troubleshooter to see if it could find anything? Did you try reinstalling the Windows Multimedia Components? Maybe you should start a new thread with a subject header that better describes your problem, a subject like "No Sound" may attract better responses from other helpers. John

A wireless card, or NIC can interfere without any conflicts listed. If you have one of those, you might try a USB model. -- Joe =o)
