Guest Tony Batchelor Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I have a small problem with my main (new) PC so went looking for possible things to try. One I found was to run the device driver verifier. As I am wary of using new programmes on my main PC, I did what I usually do, and ran verifier as instructed in Help and Support, BUT, on my old backup PC. Disaster!!! Some way through the process the PC suddenly started running extremely slowly - less than 10% of its correct speed. Once nothing seemed to be happening, I restarted and got the same problem. The PC is practically unusable. BUT, it works fine when starting in either of the Safe Modes. How can I get back my system so it will run again in Start Normally? XP Pro with SP3/IE7 and all updates to software and hardware.. Tony
Guest JS Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Re: device driver verifier No doubt this device driver verifier was a web based scan. Guest Daniel Martín [MVP] Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Re: device driver verifier Hi, Tony: You say you followed instructions from Help and Support, so I suppose you ran MS Driver Verifier. Start your computer in Safe Mode, click Start, Run, type without the quotation marks "verifier /reset" and click OK. This will turn off Driver Verifier. Now restart your computer for the changes to take effect. -- Regards, Daniel Martín Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "Tony Batchelor" <tony.batchelor@get2net.dk(donotspam)> wrote in message news:80B3F1E5-3272-43D6-95A5-FDA7A80491F8@microsoft.com... >I have a small problem with my main (new) PC so went looking for possible > things to try. > One I found was to run the device driver verifier. Guest Tony Batchelor Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Re: device driver verifier No, it is the verifier inbuilt in Windows. System32/verifier.exe Tony "JS" wrote: > No doubt this device driver verifier was a web based scan. > > Virus Removal Info > Provided by: Malke - MS MVP: > http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware > > JS > http://www.pagestart.com > > > "Tony Batchelor" <tony.batchelor@get2net.dk(donotspam)> wrote in message > news:80B3F1E5-3272-43D6-95A5-FDA7A80491F8@microsoft.com... > >I have a small problem with my main (new) PC so went looking for possible > > things to try. > > One I found was to run the device driver verifier. Guest Tony Batchelor Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 RE: device driver verifier PPS I forgot to mention that the first thing I tried was a Windows Install/Repair from the OS CD. That didn't change the problem.
