fraufreda Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 when i switch off the plug and then switch it on, my pc starts to operate itself for a moment. this is also happens when the electricity is cut and back again. and in both cases the computer is already turned off from the start menu. and just today, my pc was turned off, i switched the plug off and then on and the same thing happened but this time i couldn't operate my computer it doesnt work anymore. actually i dunno much about computers so ill just mention some info and hopefully will help you diagnose the problem i have xp sp2 250 ram pentium III sata connection thanks in advance Quote

If your computer is not supposed to do this, I would suspect a power supply problem. Unless you are happy going inside your pc, this may be one for the repair shop. Guest Wolfeymole Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Try and make sure that your pc has a constant supply of electricity Freda, it may well be that your motherboard battery has died. When shutting down a pc just shut it down in the normal manner and if your power supply has an On/Off switch the leave it On. This is a similar scenario to leaving your TV on Standby. Never switch it off at the mains or via the power supply. Obtain a new motherboard battery and try that. This is what it looks like; http://www.totalsem.com/images/discbattery.jpg Quote
