I was wondering if my computer would run games smoothly (examples of games below) the specs of my computer are just below:

  • RAM: 4GB
  • Processor: Intel dual core (3GHz)
  • Operating system: Windows XP professional
  • HDD: 250GB
  • Graphics card: 1GB DDR3 Nvidia GT 520

I play games like:

  • Minecraft
  • TheHunter
  • 3D free to play RPG's (Perfect world / 4story)
  • APB reloaded

The PC cost £179 but I was planning on buying it as a temporary gaming PC as I am only 15 and didn't have a big budget and then upgrading it in the future when I get more money.

Hi and welcome to ExTS

We are not a gaming forum so advice may be a little limited :)

System Specs for "The Hunter"

http://www.thehunterwiki.com/index.php?title=System_Requirements

System Specs "APB Reloaded"

http://www.apbrwiki.com/wiki/System_Requirements

Perfect World

Presumably this is a second-hand machine ( XP ? )

If you are upgrading in the future you may want to consider another Video Card.

If you do - then there is every possibility that you will need to upgrade the PSU too.

32 bit systems have a 4GB RAM max. You would need to check what you have before spending on more RAM.

Newer games require Direct-X 10 / 11

XP is limited to Direct-X 9

Depending on the Socket Type on your motherboard you may be limited to what you can upgrade the CPU to.

I have answered this as best I can.

I gave you links to system specs to the games you said you played.

I suggested options for upgrading.

I suggested limitations that you may experience.

I don't know what else to add ??????

I will say this -

If you are only paying £179 for a "gaming" machine you cannot expect to play high end games.

This is only a basic system - it is not designed for gaming.

If you want a gaming machine you are going to have to at least triple your outlay.

Right, well thanks anyway

I've had a look at the requirements for the games and considering the price (£179) all the requirements seem to be there to play the games I want, I won't be playing big games like BF3 or COD... I might try them but I'm more into Minecraft and MMORPGS, anyway thanks for the help, I've bought it so we'll see when it gets here (thursday / wednesday) I'll have to repost possibly and tell you how it performs.

Your personal view:

Was just wondering what your personal view is on this computer? Would you say its good for the price I got it and what are your views on it running games like the ones I play? Sorry for all the questions but I like to have a good knowledge about things I've bought.

You have bought this as "used" from a dealer on EBay.

For £179 you do seem to have value for money - provided everything is as it should be when you start using it.

I have already explained where I see the limitations - but for this price you cannot expect to have a high-end gaming machine.

What you have bought is a decent general purpose machine that will be capable of playing some games.

If you got it to play the games that you listed - it should be capable of that.

Hey, I emailed the guy who I bought it from, he said it was 32 bit but 64 bit compatible. What does this mean and does it really matter too much?

Yes this is used but listed under seller refurbished. Meaning that everything is in new working order. Also the guy I bought it from tests the items frequently and also before postage.

he said it was 32 bit but 64 bit compatible

I have already given you a partial explanation for this.

32 bit systems are limited to the amount of RAM that they can utilise. This is 4GB.

The system will only use about 3.5 GB.

64 bit systems transmit data faster.

They can also make use of much more RAM - typically 32 GB.

The fact that it is 64 bit compatible means that you could, if you wanted to, put a 64 bit OS on your hard drive and the motherboard and Processor would cope.

Hey got my computer today and tired Minecraft on it, works perfectly! Only one problem... U upgraded to Windows Home premium and now I'm getting this Open GL, bad video card drivers error on Minecraft. I would really appreciate any help that you could offer as I'm really annoyed by this.
