Tried installing the motherboard chipset SM Bus Controller driver, from the

...i.e. installed the motherboard drivers ?

e.g. for an Intel chipset -

If it is a USB device, check for it using UVCView. UVCView

shows configuration info from a USB device, when the USB

device is plugged in. If you're not seeing anything,

there could be a bad USB cable, or a problem at the

camera end (wrong mode, battery problem or whatever).

UVCView was originally offered on the Microsoft site, but

was removed by them. I've provided links to web.archive.org

to get a copy, but the archive likes to remove the last byte

of some of the files it archives. If you try to run the

archived version, in WinXP, it won't execute. Thus, the

following two links, are alternate locations for a copy

of the utility.

*******

ftp://ftp.efo.ru/pub/ftdichip/Utilities/UVCView.x86.exe

http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/USB_IDs/UVCView.x86.exe

File size is 167,232 bytes.

MD5sum is 93244d84d79314898e62d21cecc4ca5e

This is a picture of what the UVCView info looks like.

http://www.die.de/blog/content/binary/usbview.png

Some information on the parameters seen in UVCView.

http://www.beyondlogic.org/usbnutshell/usb5.htm

*******

This should be a USB issue of some sort, and not

be dependent on SMBus and its state. UVCView won't

fix it, but may tell you whether the connection from

the camera to the computer is working.

Thanks Heaps for advice Richard, & Paul for your Advice & Links.Have

something to Chew over now.I might add that when one endeavours to do

the Ts/fer(from Camera to Pc via USB)the mouse pointer freezes.have to

restart pc. I do'nt know if the latter is of any consequence. Regards. jim

Examine the adapter cable, for bent pins. Maybe something is

shorting out.

Is the mouse optical (and visible) ? Does the light go out

when the cursor stops moving ? Perhaps power has been

removed from the mouse for some reason (thus my suggestion

to look at the camera cable).

The enumeration sequence for USB is described in some

detail here. The UVCView tool is showing the results

of that setting up of endpoints, and reading of

device configuration information. Thus, if you get

a full window of stuff from the newly plugged device,

then chances are the physical layer is OK.
