Hi,

I'm trying to figure out if I purchase a license of 2003 Datacenter,

can I install 2003 Enterprise instead?

Haven't been able to find an answer to this question anywhere.

Thanks

Hello MacAddict,

Don't think so, never heard about downgrading form datacenter to enterprise.

So why will you buy datacenter and not directly enterprise edition?

Best regards

Hi Meinolf,

I've heard that there are some incompatibilities out there with

Datacenter and we need to run ~70 VMs on the same host. Licensing

datacenter turns out to be much cheaper than buying enterprise

licenses.

I called Microsoft and they said that it is allowed:

http://www.microsoftvolumelicensing.com/userights/Downloader.aspx?DocumentId=1488

go to page 32:

"You may run on the licensed server an instance of Standard or

Enterprise in place of Datacenter and Datacenter without Hyper-V in

any of the operating system environments. "
