Guest Andrew Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Re: Over 4 million highjacked PC's My little broadband icon in the system tray sometimes sometimes lights up with activity even though I'm not on-line - my wireless router is always on with my PC by the way. I've read that way over 4 million PC's have been highjacked. My question is: how can one tell if one has been highjacked and how can we stop them doing it again? Thanks - Andy
Guest sgopus Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Re: Over 4 million highjacked PC's Re: Over 4 million highjacked PC's Do you have a firewall either hard or software? besides windows firewall, which is inadquate in my opinion. Do you have Antivirus application installed, if so what is it? do you have antimalware installed, if so what is it? Thanks - Andy Two good utilities.. NetMeter.. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network-Tools/Bandwidth-Tools/NetMeter.shtml This will give you a visual on incoming and outgoing stuff. It can also report daily, weekly and monthly totals, useful if your usage is capped by the ISP Also WinPatrol.. http://www.winpatrol.com/ This utility allows you to mess with a few things, but its best use is to report anything trying to install itself in Startup without you knowing.. -- Mike Hall - MVP How to construct a good post.. http://dts-l.com/goodpost.htm How to use the Microsoft Product Support Newsgroups.. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=newswhelp&style=toc Mike's Window - My Blog.. http://msmvps.com/blogs/mikehall/default.aspx

OS upgraded to SP3 and patched/updated? AV/A-S Software updated prior scanning? Know how to interpret scan results? Scanned with HJT and got log examined by an expert? Practise safe-hex?
